Razorbacks Travel To SEC Championship

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 16th-ranked University of Arkansas men’s golf team returns to the links to begin postseason play traveling to Sea Island, Georgia, for the 2018 Southeastern Conference Championship.

Arkansas has faced one of the toughest schedules in the country this year and the SEC Championship is no exception with two top-5 and five top-10 programs in the field. The Razorbacks take on No. 2 Texas A&M, No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 6 Alabama, No. 7 Florida and No. 9 Auburn in the five-day event.

This is the 18th year the SEC Championship will take place at Sea Island and the second in which the format features three rounds of stroke play followed by match play to determine the team title. The format mirrors the NCAA Championship with the top eight teams in a two-day shootout for the crown.

Alvaro Ortiz leads the team with a 70.6 stroke average, while Mason Overstreet is a close second at 71.0. The duo has combined to shoot 33-under par this season. William Buhl is third on the team shooting 72.1, followed by Luis Garza shooting 72.3 and Tyson Reeder at 74.8.

Arkansas enters the SEC Championship with a regular season record 100-41-2 and went 55-30-2 in the spring season. This is head coach Brad McMakin’s 12th trip to the league championship. He has guided Arkansas to four top-5 finishes
