LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Arkansas baseball team travels to Kentucky this weekend for an important SEC showdown with the Wildcats at Cliff Hagan Stadium beginning Friday night.
The 15th-ranked Razorbacks are 8-10 in SEC play and need to play well in Lexington if they want to stay competitive in the conference race. Kentucky is 21-19 overall but just 3-14 in league action.
The series begins at 5:30 p.m. (CDT) Friday and continues on Saturday with 3 p.m. contest that will be televised on Fox Sports Net. The series concludes on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for noon. All three games can be heard on the Razorback Baseball Radio Network with Chuck Barrett calling the action.
Lefty Nick Schmidt (5-1, 2.62 ERA) will take the mound on Friday night as the Hogs look to snap a five-game SEC losing steak. Kentucky will throw RHP Kalen Gibson in the opener. He is 4-1 with a 5.44 ERA this season in 10 starts. Saturday will pit the Razorbacks’ RHP Daryl Maday (5-0, 2.86 ERA), in his first start of the season, against UK’s lefty Aaron Tennyson (5-1, 3.72 ERA). For the series finale, Arkansas skipper Dave Van Horn has RHP Lee Land (1-1, 2.86 ERA) tentatively scheduled to make his second start opposite Kentucky’s LHP Andrew Albers (3-4, 4.97 ERA).
