EDINBURGH, Scotland – Three current and former Arkansas men’s and women’s cross country student-athletes represented their respective countries on Saturday morning in Edinburgh at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country competition in Holyrood Park. Razorback All-Americans Alex George (Great Britain), Stanley Kebenei (USA) and Taylor Werner (USA) posted solid performances at the meet, each contributing to the success of their respective nation.

The annual challenge consists of four separate events, including the men’s junior 6K, women’s junior 4K, men’s senior 8K and women’s senior 6K. The U.S. national team won the meet by posting the best overall finishes in the junior and senior races. The scores of each team’s top four (junior) and top six (senior) are used to tabulate the final total. Team USA won with a final score of 149.

A consistent member of the Arkansas women’s top five during her first season as a Razorback, Werner brought the same drive to her performance for Team USA. The Ste Genevieve, Missouri, native finished eighth overall as the fourth-best runner for her squad, completing the 4K course in 14 minutes, 30 seconds. She was edged out by Arkansas signee Lauren Gregory who crossed the finish line five seconds ahead in seventh position. As members of the team’s top four, both Werner and Gregory’s scores were counted toward Team USA’s winning total.

On the men’s side, George and Kebenei navigated the 8K race both finishing among the top-20 best performers of the day. Kebenei made quick work of the chilly, wet course, finishing in 24:39 for fifth place – the third best runner on the U.S. team. One of the youngest runners in the senior race, George put forth a solid showing placing 20th in 25:31 to close a decorated year which saw him claim conference gold and All-Region recognition.
