Razorbacks advance in first match

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 10th-ranked University of Arkansas men’s golf team opened the first round of NCAA Championship match play with a 3-2 win over Washington in the morning round Friday. The Razorbacks, playing the new championship format for the first time, qualified as the fourth seed and faced No. 5 Washington in the first match. Arkansas’ Jamie Marshall won a point in the five hole, 3 & 2 over Washington’s Tze Huang Choo. The Razorbacks also captured the win in the No. 4 spot when Jason Cuthbertson defeated Chris Killmer 3&2. Arkansas clinched the match with David Lingmerth’s win over Richard Lee 2 & 1. The victory moves the Razorbacks into the second round where they face No. 8 Georgia, an upset winner over top-seeded and top-ranked Oklahoma State. The match ups for the second round scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., pits Marshall against Georgia’s Adam Mitchell in the No. 5 spot. Cuthbertson faces Harris English in the four-spot, while Tracy takes on Russell Henley. Lingmerth and Landry round out the Razorback lineup and face Georgia’s Hudson Swafford and Brian Harman, respectively.
