FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas Alumni Association sponsored ‘Hot Dogs With Head Hogs’ on Monday as members of Razorback athletics distributed hundreds of hot dogs and drinks to students on campus. The event, part of the University’s homecoming celebrations, was sponsored by Pepsi and First Security Bank. Heath Bowman, associate director at Arkansas Alumni Association, was excited to kick off the festivities.
“To me, this is like the quintessential kickoff for homecoming, and it helps us get out there on campus and let people know that this is homecoming week,” Bowman said. “We’re passing out schedules to educate people about the other events that are going on this week and to promote what our students are doing on campus.”
Razorback women’s basketball was among the athletic groups handing out hot dogs to students. Junior forward Jhasmin Bowen was part of the 11 a.m. shift.
“I like that we get to get out and interact with the students, and being a member of a women’s team, people don’t always know a lot about us,” Bowen said. “Getting out here and being able to show people who we are and what we do is good. To interact with the students is really fun.”
Head coach Tom Collen was also present helping out with the team.
“I know the one thing students love is free food,” Coach Collen said. “I think that’s universal. It was that way when I was this age, too. It’s kind of nice to get out on campus, see all the students and think about my own college days, actually, watching them wandering around. It’s a great event. We’re happy to be a part of it.”
