The University of Arkansas men’s basketball team suffered its first setback of the 2011-12 season in North Little Rock last Friday night and returns to the court on Tuesday evening to take on the Utah Valley Wolverines at 7 p.m. in Bud Walton Arena. The Razorbacks (2-1) are undefeated on their home court this season and are 4-0 at the Basketball Palace of Mid-America in two exhibition and two regular season games. Arkansas is averaging 86.8 points per game in those four contests and have two games of 90-plus points. By contrast, the Razorbacks are holding their opponents to just 66.3 points per game. Arkansas’ game with Utah Valley (3-1) is its third in the Southwest Showcase which features Arkansas, Grambling State, Houston, Oakland and Utah Valley. The Razorbacks are currently 1-1 in the event after dropping a tough decision to Houston last Friday. The Cougars are 3-0 against the other teams in the tournament with their win over Arkansas and Utah Valley is 1-1 with a victory over Grambling State and a loss to Houston. The Razorbacks have a great deal of work ahead of them as they learn to play without starting forward and leading returning scorer Marshawn Powell. Powell, who was averaging 19.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in two regular season contests this year, was injured in practice last week and likely won’t be available for the Utah Valley game. In his absence, the Razorbacks picked up a game high 17 points from guard Julysses Nobles against Houston and had four players score in double digits. Where the Razorbacks suffered most was in its depth as just nine players saw action against the Cougars. Season, regular season non-conference and mini plan tickets are available by contacting the Razorback Ticket Office or by going online to ArkansasRazorbacks.com. The Arkansas-Utah Valley game will be broadcast on the radio across the Razorback Sports Network from IMG College with Chuck Barrett and Rick Schaeffer giving the call. Following the contest with Utah Valley, Arkansas completes its games in the Southwest Showcase at Bud Walton Arena when they play Grambling State on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m.
