Razorbacks beat Samford 6-2

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Arkansas softball team completed play at the Southern Miss Invitational with a 6-2 win over Samford. The Razorbacks (3-1) got a win from freshman Kelsie Vallies in her first collegiate start. Whitney Cloer supplied the offense with a pair of doubles and three RBI. Miranda Dixon came on to record the save.

Arkansas jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after one inning. Tori Mort bunted for a single for the Razorbacks’ first hit of the game. She stole second base and came around to score on a double by Miranda Dixon. The top of the order continued to produce in the top of the second as Jessica Bachkora and Mort drove in a run to push the Razorback lead to 3-0.

Cloer knocked a two-run double to the base of the left field wall to score Kayla Johnson and Sandra Smith for a 5-0 Arkansas lead. Samford cut into the lead with a two-run fifth inning, but the Razorbacks got one of those runs back on Cloer’s second double of the day which scored Dixon, who also reached on a double. Arkansas led 6-2.
