GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Arkansas Razorbacks fell to the No. 10/11 Florida Gators 4-0 on Friday afternoon at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.
Sophomore Hope McLemore wrapped the first inning with a strikeout and picked up another in the second as well. A bunt just outside the batter’s box loaded the bases for Florida. A three RBI double gives the Gators the lead, but freshman Jayme Gee and Jessica Robison teamed up to catch the steal from second to end the inning.
"You know, I really felt good about the way we played today," head coach Mike Larabee said. "I thought our team put the ball in play and put pressure on them. We had a couple base-running errors, but we did well today. You have to be happy with the way that Hope competed. She did really well against this team today."
Arkansas came back in the top of the third to make the Gators work on defense. Freshman Amanda Geile led off the inning with a single to left field. Chloe Oprzedek followed up with a single up the third base line. Senior Becca Carden made contact with the ball through the infield but reached on a fielder’s choice.
The Razorbacks pick up two more hits in Arkansas’ half of the sixth. Linnea Ketcher reached base first for the Razorbacks off a throwing error, but Courtney Breault picked up her first hit of the game followed by a single to the right side by Gee.
A lead-off home run by the right fielder gave the Gators a 4-0 lead over Arkansas in the home half of the sixth. McLemore allowed a total of four runs and collected three strikeouts and had just one base on balls against the Gators.
Three straight outs in the Hogs half of the seventh ended the game for Arkansas with a final score of 4-0 for Florida. The Razorbacks come back on Saturday at 3 p.m. to continue the series with the Gators.
