Razorbacks head west

NEWPORT COAST, Calif. – The Arkansas men’s golf team begins its first three-round tournament of the spring season on Sunday when they participate in the Battle at the Beach in Newport Coast, Calif. The three-day tournament is being held at the Pelican Hill Golf Club’s Ocean North Course, a par 71 6,945 yard course just south of Los Angeles.

The three-round tournament features some of the top teams in the collegiate world ranging from coast to coast. Along with the Razorbacks, Arizona State, Colorado, Colorado State, Long Beach State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, San Diego State, Tennessee, Texas, Texas-San Antonio, UC Davis, UCLA and Washington are scheduled to compete. Arkansas heads into the tournament with the confidence of a victory in its last tourney, a one-round competition in Houston, Texas last weekend.

"It was good to get out and play last weekend," Arkansas head coach Brad McMakin said. "With the weather that we have had, it was a very good measuring stick as to where we are at. Some of the best teams in the nation will be in California this weekend."

The Razorbacks are led by David Lingmerth who owns a stroke average of 71.07 through 14 rounds this season. In six tournaments this season, Lingmerth has shot par or better three times and has five top 10 finishes. Ethan Tracy is also looking good for the Hogs as the sophomore led the way for the Razorbacks last weekend. Tracy didn’t play his best golf during the fall season, but has been hitting the ball very well over the winter break and was a key component to Arkansas’ run to a national runner-up finish a year ago.
