FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas Athletic Department hosted the 13th Annual Staff Senate Appreciation Picnic and Vendor fair Thursday at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.The picnic, organized by the University of Arkansas Staff Senate, took place in the east and south end zone concourses of the stadium with dozens of volunteers, including Razorback head coaches, Athletic Department administrators and student-athletes participating as servers for the meal. Volunteers served hot dogs, veggie dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, coleslaw, baked beans, tacos and ice cream. Most of the food was donated by local businesses."We are proud to play host to this important Staff Senate event to say thank you to all those who work at the University of Arkansas," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. "There are so many individuals who make important contributions to our campus each and every day, allowing more than 20,000 students to pursue a college degree. We appreciate their efforts and are grateful they are helping make a difference in the lives of so many University of Arkansas students." The Staff Senate is an employee group on the university campus with the primary function of working with university administrators to address staff concerns related to the quality of work life on campus. The Staff Senate represents nearly 3,600 employees. Angela Black currently serves as the Staff Senate Chair.Athletic Department personnel participating as volunteers included Long and several other Athletic Department senior administrators. Razorback head men’s basketball coach Mike Anderson, baseball coach Dave Van Horn, head women’s track and field coach Lance Harter, head men’s track and field coach Chris Bucknam, head women’s swimming coach Jeff Poppell, head softball coach Mike Larabee,head women’s tennis coach Michael Hegarty, gymnastics co-head coaches Mark and Rene Cookand assistant coaches from a number of the program’s 19 sports also volunteered to serve their fellow campus employees at the picnic.For more information about Razorback Athletics, please log on to ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
