FAYETTEVILLE — Fans are invited to join University of Arkansas student – athletes in supporting local food banks through the annual fall Razorback Canned Food Drive this weekend. Canned food will be collected by Razorback student-athletes on Saturday, Sept. 29th, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at four Harps Grocery Stores throughout Fayetteville. "We are proud that Razorback student-athletes are once again taking an active role fighting hunger on our campus and in Northwest Arkansas," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. "The fall canned food drive has become a staple of our community outreach efforts with multiple Razorback teams taking part each year. Through the leadership of our student-athletes and the generosity of those in our community, the Full Circle Food Pantry and the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank will be able to further meet the needs of those on our campus and throughout the region."Fans can join the men’s and women’s basketball teams at the Harps on Garland Avenue. The men’s team will look to build this season on their 18-14 record in head coach Mike Anderson’s first season, and the women’s team went 24-9 last season and advanced to second round of the NCAA Tournament.The men’s baseball team, who finished third nationally last season at the College World Series, will be at the Harps on Crossover Road. They will be joined by the gymnastics team, who advanced to the Super Six last year for the second time in four years. The men’s track team, who collected 18 All-American honors last season, will be at the Harps on North College Avenue and Fiesta Square, while the women’s golf team, who made their fifth NCAA Championship appearance last year, will be Harps on Weddington Avenue. Donations from collected at the Harps stores will go directly to The Full Circle Campus Food Pantry. The canned food collection from food drive partner, The Road Hogs, will go to the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank as well as The Full Circle Food Pantry.
