Razorbacks host Red and White meet

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas swimming and diving team will kick off the 2009-10 season with the program’s annual Red and White Intrasquad meet Saturday at 9 a.m. in the Arkansas Natatorium.

The meet will feature 28 members of the squad splitting into teams and competing against one another as they prepare for the double dual-meet opener against reigning Southeastern Conference champion Florida and Kansas in mid-October.

The two teams will compete in a total of 11 swimming events along with one-meter and three-meter diving events. The swimming events include the 200 medley relay, 1000 free, 200 free, 50 free, 200 IM, 200 fly, 100 free, 200 back, 500 free, 200 breast and 400 free relay.

Arkansas is coming off one of its most successful seasons in school history. The 2008-09 Razorbacks posted the programs first ever 10-win season, finishing the year 10-1. The team’s only loss came in the first dual meet of the season to then-No. 10 Tennessee. The Hogs also came away with a fifth place finish at the 2009 SEC Championships, Arkansas’ highest finish in school history.

Arkansas’ 10 newcomers compliment a strong returning cast including three 2009 All-Americans (Jamie Marks, Leah Pierce and Yi-Ting Siow), three 2009 FINA World Championships competitors (Siow, Erica Totten and Lynette Ng) and the 2009 SEC 200 breaststroke champion (Siow).

The Arkansas Natatorium is located on the corner of Stadium Drive and Meadow Street within the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Building. Parking is available for fans in Lot 67 off of Meadow Street between Razorback Road and Stadium Drive free of charge on weekends. Admission is free.
