Razorbacks host SFA Tuesday

FAYETTEVILLE — The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Bud Walton Arena Tuesday night hosting Stephen F. Austin at 7 p.m. The game between the Razorbacks (6-1) and SFA (7-0) will be televised by COX Sports Television with Chuck Barrett and Cindy Stein calling the action. “We spent today focusing on our defense,” sophomore Dominique Robinson said. “We have really been studying their personnel and focusing on stopping their offense. Stephen F. Austin pressures everything. We were prepared to handle the trap and pressure against Middle Tennessee and that preparation carries over for this game as well.” “They have a deep bench,” added junior Quistelle Williams. “They play eight or nine so we have to be ready for whoever they throw in. We are really getting to the point where we trust each other so well that we just flow into things no matter who is in the game for us.” Arkansas picked up its sixth with in a hard-fought road contest at Middle Tennessee State, 59-53, Saturday in the team’s final road game until January. Senior C’eira Ricketts continues to lead the team with 12.0 ppg this week. She is joined by Sarah Watkins, 10.6 ppg, and Lyndsay Harris, 10.1 ppg, in double figures. For only the fourth time in SFA history, the Ladyjacks have started out a season 7-0 and it marks the first time since 1988-89. After a perfect November, SFA sits alone in first place in the Southland Conference West Division with six non-conference games remaining until SLC play begins. “They play with a lot of energy and they play great defense with pressure all over the floor,” said Arkansas head coach Tom Collen. “We need to play good basketball teams who pressure to make us better. They also shoot the three well and we’ll have to be prepared for that. “We are playing two pretty good teams leading into finals week,” Collen continued. “This part of the season just flies by. Our offense is getting better and we hit some free throws down the stretch at Middle Tennessee. We have to keep getting better and we know that they (Stephen F. Austin) will challenge us.”
