FAYETTEVILLE – Collegiate summer baseball leagues are in full swing throughout the country. Here’s an update on how current Razorbacks are faring so far this summer.
USA Collegiate National Team
The USA Collegiate National Team is 3-0 on its summer tour. The team is currently playing teams from the New England Collegiate Baseball League and will play the NECBL All-Stars on Monday afternoon at Fenway Park in Boston.
Sophomore DJ Baxendale started Team USA’s game against Mystic on Friday night. Baxendale received a no decision after tossing five innings and allowing two runs on two hits with six strikeouts.
Freshman Ryne Stanek pitched in relief in the game against North Shore on Sunday evening. Stanek pitched well in his relief stint, recording six strike outs and surrendering a run on five hits in 2.2 innings.
Freshman Dominic Ficociello has started all three games from Team USA, seeing time at both first and third base. While he has only gone 1-for-11 at the plate, Ficociello has been a run producer for the team, driving in a run in each contest.
Cape Cod Baseball League
Freshman Barrett Astin has made two scoreless appearances out of the bullpen for the Wareham Gatemen. Astin has pitched four innings, striking out two and allowing just one hit. Opposing hitters are batting just .077 vs. Astin.
Sophomore Jimmy Bosco has gotten off to a strong start offensively for the Cotuit Kettleers. Bosco is hitting .357 with a double, a triple and two RBI in seven games played. Bosco has also swiped two bases for the Kettleers.
Redshirt Trent Daniel has pitched in one game for the Kettleers. In his only outing of the summer, Daniel pitched two innings, giving up a run on two hits and fanning two.
Sophomore Matt Reynolds is spending his summer with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox. Reynolds is currently hitting .278 and is tied for the team lead with six RBI.
Freshman Jacob Rice has played in six games this summer for the Duluth Huskies and is hitting .111 with a double and a RBI.
Freshman Nolan Sanburn is playing with the Battle Creek Bombers this summer and is scheduled to join the team later this week.
Freshman Jake Wise is also playing for Duluth this summer and leads the Huskies with a .345 batting average to go along with four RBI. Wise has also drawn four walks and stolen a base.
California Collegiate League
Redshirt freshman Franco Broyles has started nine games this summer for the Glendale Angelenos and is hitting .188 with three RBI. Broyles is tied for second on the team with eight stolen bases.
Sophomore Randall Fant has pitched in three games, with one start, for Glendale and has a 0-1 record with a 27.00 ERA.
Freshman Jeff Harvill has made six outings out of the bullpen for Glendale and has a 0-0 record with a save and a 3.52 ERA. Harvill is holding opposing hitters to a .148 batting average.
Alaska Baseball League
Sophomore Matt Vinson has played in eight games, with seven starts, for the Glacier Pilots and is hitting .130 with a RBI and a run scored.
Coastal Plain League
Freshman Eric Fisher is hitting .292 with three doubles and five runs scored for the Forest City Owls in nine games played, including seven starts.
Freshman Colby Suggs has two saves for Forest City in four appearances out of the bullpen. Suggs has a 6.23 ERA and has struck out five in 4.1 innings.
Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League
Redshirt sophomore Kyle Atkins has played in three games for the Lexington Hustlers and is 0-for-12 with a run scored and a stolen base.
