Razorbacks open SEC play with South Carolina

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team begins its Southeastern Conference season this weekend hosting South Carolina and No. 5 Florida in Barnhill Arena.

The Razorbacks (6-5) open with South Carolina (8-1) Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. Sunday match with the Gators (6-1).

Arkansas wrapped up a competitive non-conference schedule last weekend and has been getting great play from both the returners and the newcomers.

Seniors Kristin Seaton and Lindsay Scanlan have been on the floor for every match as has sophomores Kelli Stipanovich and Phoebe Bautista.

But the newcomers are solid contributors as well. Freshman Amanda Anderson has earned a pair of all-tournament team honors and was named the SEC Freshman of the Week two weeks ago.

That balance is something head coach Robert Pulliza knew he needed as the season began and he is pleased with the team’s progress thus far.

"We’re done with our pre-conference schedule and I’m excited about how we’ve progressed as a team," Pullilza said. "We played great volleyball on Friday (against Jacksonville State). We’re doing some really good things and we just have to keep it going in the right direction.

"Amanda and Jasmine (Norton) have been most notable in our freshman class but everyone has moved forward. This is a fun group with great, positive energy."

The Razorbacks have their hands full with a talented Gamecock team that has picked up some big pre-SEC wins.

"South Carolina is a very good opponent and we’re looking forward to getting things going with them," said Pulliza.

Tickets for both matches are on sale at the Razorback Ticket Office and on-line at ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
