Razorbacks Pound Boards and Broncs 66-38

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) – Southeastern Conference leading scorer Ronnie Brewer scored just two points Friday but Arkansas went on to beat Texas-Pan American 66-38.

Jonathon Modica led the Razorbacks with 14 points while adding eight rebounds. Darian Townes had eight points, and a game and career-high matching 12 rebounds as Arkansas claimed a 46-33 advantage on the boards with 18 offensive rebounds.

Sean McCurdy added 10 points and Steven Hill blocked eight shots. The victory gave Arkansas (10-2) an eight-game-straight winning streak.

Texas-Pan American (2-12) has lost 10 straight.

It was the Razorbacks’ first game in nine days, and Arkansas struggled from the field for much of the first half, shooting just 25 percent from the floor (7 of 28). Junior guard Brewer was held scoreless, missing all four of his shots – three from 3-point range.

The Broncs, though, hit just 20 percent from the floor (5 of 20) before the break.

Arkansas blew the game open with a 23-7 run early in the second half, scoring more points in the first 10 minutes than they had in the previous 20. The Razorbacks shot 16 of 36 (44 percent) from the field.

Brewer’s two points tied for a career low. In his freshman season, he scored two points in an SEC tournament loss to South Carolina. Brewer hadn’t scored less than 12 points in any game this season.

Derrick East led the Broncs with 13 points.

Arkansas plays host to Western Illinois Sunday at 7:35 p.m.
