Razorbacks represented at Leadership Forum

FAYETTEVILLE – Stephanie Brown, a member of the University of Arkansas women’s cross country and track and field teams, and Brandon Moore, a pitcher for the Razorback baseball team, will attend the 2011 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum this week. Approximately 400 student-athletes representing Division I, II and III will be in attendance at the event which begins Thursday in Chicago, Ill.

Brown and Moore will be accompanied by Student Life Coordinator Rodger Hunter from the university’s Student-Athlete Development office. Brown is a two-year member of Arkansas’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) while Moore has been involved in the baseball team’s community service participation within the Northwest Arkansas community.

"The Leadership Forum is an opportunity for Stephanie and Brandon to grow in their roles as leaders on the University of Arkansas campus," Hunter said. "This is also a chance for them to interact and communicate with other student-athletes and administrators to help enhance their awareness of the experiences from different parts of the country. They will be able to take the things they learn this weekend and apply them when they return to Fayetteville."

The 2011 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum will feature institutions from Region 3, an area that includes 66 Division I, 50 Division II and 81 Division III colleges and universities. The four-day forum will include student-athletes from the states of Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

In 2002, the NCAA began divisional regionally based Leadership Conferences for Division I, II and III. Every year since, Division I, II and III student-athlete, coaches and administration have met regionally to discuss issues and information impacting the student-athlete experience.

The Leadership Forum will engage a diverse and dynamic group and provide pertinent and customized sessions that will enhance personal awareness and leadership skills needed to impact student-athlete development at the campus and conference level, and beyond the collegiate realm.
