FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas football team practiced Saturday inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium leading up to its April 16 spring game. The Razorbacks scrimmaged during the morning workout, staging offense against defense with different units and packages.
Head coach Bobby Petrino, in his fourth season leading the Razorbacks, saw a lot to be excited about from the Arkansas squad.
"We’ve got a lot of weapons," Coach Petrino said. "You see our speed jump out at you. I was encouraged by a lot of things I saw out on the field."
Razorbacks Tyler Wilson and Brandon Mitchell took the majority of the snaps at quarterback. A highlight of the passing and receiving game was the play of sophomore receivers Julian Horton and Maudrecus Humphrey, who made several plays throughout the day.
"Those young receivers really made a lot of nice plays out there today," Coach Petrino said. "They went up and made catches, made plays when the ball was in the air."
The Razorbacks showed defensive pressure with experienced defensive ends Jake Bequette and Tenarius Wright, with the entire group of defensive linemen playing a part in the scrimmage.
"I really thought that the defensive line got after our young, offensive line," Coach Petrino said. "I was encouraged by the way our defensive front played. Tenarius Wright and Bequette did a nice job coming off the edge. I’m really encouraged by Robert Thomas. He’s a big guy who’s really, really athletic. It gives us something that we haven’t had in a few years, and that is that inside pass rush. I think he’s really going to help us before it’s all over with."
UA is scheduled to practice on the following dates: April 5, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13 and 15. The practice schedule is subject to change and fans are encouraged to check ArkansasRazorabacks.com daily for updated dates and times, along with post-practice reports.
