Razorbacks seek U.S. Open Qualifiers

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Four members of the 2009-10 University of Arkansas men’s golf team are playing in U.S. Open sectional qualifying competitions across the middle section of the country on Monday as 13 venues host rounds to pick 56 players to join the PGA Tour field. Seniors David Lingmerth and Dalton Owens, junior Jamie Marshall and sophomore Ethan Tracy each advanced either through an exemption or through the local qualifying stage to reach Monday’s sectional qualifying events.

Arkansas’ four players will play at three of the 13 reqional qualifying locations across the country from California to New Jersey to Texas. Arkansas’ seniors, Lingmerth and Owens, will drive to St. Louis, Mo., for their qualifier while Marshall travels to Memphis, Tenn. Tracy, who is home in Ohio for the summer break, will play his qualifier in his home state.

Lingmerth and Owens each had fantastic seasons for the Razorbacks this year with Lingmerth leading the team in stroke average and Owens posting one of Arkansas’ best scores at both the SEC and NCAA Regional Championships. The two elder statesmen of the Arkansas golf team will play their qualifier at the Country Club of St. Albans in St. Louis, Mo., against a tiny field, 18 players, that will yield just one qualifier to the U.S. Open.

In Memphis, Marshall will play at the Germantown Country Club and Ridgeway Country Club as he attempts to earn one of 12 spots among 120 players. Marshall saved his best golf for the NCAA Regional Championships where he shot two-over par and has a round of 65 under his belt from the Battle at the Beach earlier this spring.

In Springfield, Ohio, Tracy completes Arkansas’ participation in the sectional qualifiers. Tracy had a super freshman year before a decent sophomore year, but played some good golf down the stretch and should have a shot at one of the three spots in his qualifier. The Springfield, Ohio qualifier is being held at the Springfield Country Club.
