Razorbacks sweep doubles look to do same in singles

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the second consecutive-day, the University of Arkansas Razorback women’s tennis team provided an all-around grand performance in route to winning two doubles flights Saturday at the Razorback Classic.

Arkansas garnered titles in doubles from two proven Razorbacks, seniors Aurelija Miseviciute and Ela Kaluder, as well as two new freshmen, Emily Carbone and Kate Lukomskaya.

“Doubles has been a big strength for our team in the past, and we’re further along this year in doubles than a year ago which is very encouraging,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty.

Miseviciute and Kaluder, ranked No. 10 nationally, captured Flight A against Oklahoma’s Ana Maria Constantinescu and Kristina Radan, 8-2. The freshmen duo earned the Flight B crown, 8-3, over Tara Eckel and Peta Maree Lancaster, 8-3.

In singles action the story was no different. The Razorbacks will have a player competing for each flight championship on Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Dills Indoor Tennis Center.

“Playing at home has it advantages, and since we have so many big tournaments coming up here this season it’s a great start,” Hegarty said.

Miseviciute displayed why she is No. 1 nationally in Flight A of singles, routing No. 82 Alexandra Kichoutkin in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Anouk Tigu made easy work of Marie-Pier Huet of Oklahoma, 6-1, 6-1, advancing to the finals of Flight B to face fellow teammate Carbone. Carbone won arguably the day’s tightest match, 7-6(8), 5-7, 6-2, against Tulsa’s Rebecca Row. Lukomskaya got the job done in singles as well as she took down Lancaster, 7-5, 6-1, punching her ticket for the finals in Flight C.

In Sunday’s singles flight finals Miseviciute faces No. 93 Constantinescu and Lukomskaya battles Tulsa’s Jin Zeng.

The final round of the Razorback Classic will consist of singles action only.
