FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas softball team defeated the No. 9 Tennessee Lady Vols 4-1 on Saturday afternoon, improving its overall record to 18-8 and 2-5 in the SEC. This is the first time that Arkansas has defeated Tennessee since the 2008 season, when Tennessee was also ranked in the top ten at No. 8. "This is a great win for our program," said head coach Mike Larabee. "This is the second win this year where we took down a top ten team." The Lady Vols stuck first in the second game of the series when it brought home one run in the top of the first.The Razorbacks responded in the bottom of the first bringing in four runs. Freshman Devon Wallace started the hitting streak when she collected her sixth homerun on the season, slamming it over the right centerfield wall, tying the game at one all. Three more runs were scored off of a homerun from sophomore, Amanda Geile, also her sixth of the year, while giving Arkansas the 4-1 lead. Arkansas’s defense was strong throughout the game collecting 21 putouts, seven assists and zero errors.The Razorbacks loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with no outs, but were unable to bring home any of the runners, keeping the score 4-1.Wallace grabbed a double in the bottom of the sixth out to the right field wall, but was not able to be brought home.Junior Chelsea Cohen was solid for seven innings in the circle, grabbing six strikeouts and only allowing one walk. "Chelsea was in command from the beginning of the game," said Larabee. "I was very proud of her performance today."Tennessee was unable to respond in the top of the seventh giving the Razorbacks the 4-1 victory.Arkansas will wrap up its series with Tennessee tomorrow at 12 p.m. at Bogle Park. "I want the team to enjoy the victory today," said Larabee.
