Razorbacks to battle Longhorns on track

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas men’s track and field head coach Chris Bucknam has announced that the Razorbacks will compete against the Texas Longhorns in a pair of dual meets during the 2010 track and field season.

"Our staff and our team are very excited about these meets," Bucknam said. "Dual meets are a big part of the history of collegiate track and field and we are excited to bring them back to the main stream. Dual meets add an extra element of excitement to competition."

"This is a huge opportunity to compete against great competition at an event that I believe fans are going to appreciate and want to come watch," Bucknam said. "Both Arkansas and Texas are in the fight every season for a conference trophy and this meet will pit two of the best conferences against each other."

Bucknam and the Razorbacks will host head coach Bubba Thornton and the Longhorn men’s track team indoors Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Thornton and the Longhorns will host Bucknam and the Razorbacks outdoors Saturday, April 17 at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

This exciting match-up will see the defending SEC Champion Razorbacks take on the defending Big 12 Champion Longhorns.

"We are very excited about adding this dual meet to our schedule," Thornton said. "Too often, track and field is looked at as an individual sport, but when the big meets come around, conference and national championships and even the Olympics, all anyone wants to know is what team won or what team won the most medals."
