Razorbacks travel to Tulsa

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team continues its 2009 campaign traveling to Tulsa for a 7 p.m. match Tuesday.

The Razorbacks (4-3) are coming off a successful weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational where Arkansas finished 2-1 and as the tournament runner-up. Senior Kristin Seaton and sophomore Phoebe Bautista both earned all-tournament team honors for their play.

"We had a really good weekend in Blacksburg and we’re looking forward to continuing our momentum going into the Tulsa match," Arkansas head coach Robert Pulliza said. "Tulsa is a very good team. They are undefeated going into the third week of the season and they need to be taken seriously. It should be a great match and we’re looking forward to tomorrow night."

Tulsa enters the match with a perfect 6-0 record with wins in back-to-back tournament appearances. The Golden Hurricane are hitting .323 as a team and blocking and digging well this young season.

Jennifer Eichler leads the team with 4.00 kills-per-set and Hannah Stout is hitting .500 through the first six matches.

Arkansas is also playing well through the first couple weeks of the year. The Razorbacks are hitting .265 as a team paced by freshman Amanda Anderson who leads the team with a .439 hitting percentage. Freshman Jasmine Norton leads Arkansas with 3.52 kps and a team-high 81 kills this year.

Seaton enjoyed a solid weekend at Virginia Tech and enters the Tulsa match hitting .296 with 2.28 kps.

The Razorback defense is also much-improved from a year ago. Bautista leads the team with 104 digs and a 4.16 dig-per-set average. The block is solid behind the play of freshman Janeliss Torres-Lopez who has a team-best 25 followed closely by Anderson with 23.

Tuesday’s match is in the midst of a tough opening month for Arkansas. The Razorback began the season at the TCU Invitational, had a mid-week match with UTSA and most recently went to Tech for tournament play.

The match at Tulsa is the eighth in 12 days and is nowhere near the end for Arkansas. The young team returns home hosting the Arkansas Invitational Friday-Saturday in Barnhill Arena.
