FAYETTEVILLE — The No. 19 University of Arkansas women’s golf team continues the 2010-11 season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Oct. 25-27. The event takes place in Boulder City, Nev., at Boulder Creek Country Club.“We’re excited to get back out on the golf course and see how far we’ve come in practice,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “This is a great event and gives us a chance to test our skills against a lot of teams we don’t see very often in the course of the year.”The field for this year’s Las Vegas Showdown is an interesting mix of teams from all over the country and spanning all three regions. Arizona is the top-ranked program coming in at No. 11 in both the Golfstat and Golf Week polls and at No. 8 in the first Golf World/NGCA poll. Arkansas is No. 19/15/RV followed by Oregon at No. 23/30/13. The rest of the field includes No. 25 Kent State, UNLV, Louisville, Washington, San Diego State, New Mexico, Washington State, East Carolina, Minnesota, UC-Irvine, Missouri, Colorado State, Idaho and San Jose State.Estes-Taylor and the Razorbacks took part in a grueling qualifier with five players emerging along with one individual qualifier. The “starting” five remain the same with freshman Emily Tubert and seniorKelli Shean leading the way. Senior Corinna Rees, sophomore Victoria Vela and redshirt freshman Emma Lavy will also travel. For the third consecutive event, Arkansas travels an individual. Meagan Roberts makes her second appearance this year for the Razorbacks.Razorback senior Kelli Shean will be up on two wheels this week. The Cape Town, South Africa, native took part in the World Amateur Team Championship as one of three players representing South Africa. Shean finished tied for fourth at the event in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
