USC enters the 2014 NCAA postseason as the top-ranked squad in latest Golf World/WGCA women’s Division I coaches’ poll. The Trojans retained the No. 1 spot by claiming 16 of the available 20 first-place votes as they look to defending their national championship from 2013 and claim their fourth in school history. USC is the top seed at the NCAA West Regional, which begins Thursday.
UCLA and Duke held firm to the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in the latest poll. The Bruins claimed one first-place vote while the Blue Devils, recent winners of the ACC Championship, garnered two votes. The two schools are the top seeds in the NCAA Central and East Regionals, respectively.
Arkansas and South Carolina round out the top five, each making school history by achieving their highest ever ranking in the poll.
Stanford, settling at No. 6, was the one other school to receive a first-place vote after its upset victory over USC at the Pac-12 Championship last month.
Two new programs moved into the top 10: Big 12 winner Oklahoma (No. 8) and SEC champion Vanderbilt (No. 10). Two schools also jumped into the top 25: No. 19 Virginia and No. 23 Ohio State.
