@RazorbackWTEN Drops 5-2 Decision At Alabama
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 38 Arkansas women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 11 Alabama on Friday night at the Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
With the loss the Razorbacks fall to 15-13 overall and 3-9 in conference play, while the Crimson Tide improve to 15-6 on the season and 7-5 in SEC competition.
The Tide picked up a pair of victories on courts two and three to gain an early 1-0 advantage. Danielle Spielmann and Luicelena Perez earned an 8-3 win on court three over Flavia Araujo and Sasha Shkorupeieva. Alabama took the doubles point after Emily Zabor and Natalia Maynetto defeated Makenzie Craft and Mia Jurasic 8-5.
Arkansas took the first match of singles play, with Sasha Shkorupeieva’s 6-1, 6-2 victory over Natalia Maynettoa on court four, but Alabama would go on to win three consecutive points to clinch the match. Maya Jansen gave the Tide a 2-1 lead with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Makenzie Craft on court three.
Danielle Spielmann took a 6-2, 6-2 decision on court two over Shannon Hudson to make the score 3-1 in favor of the home team. The match was clinched when Luicelena Perez secured a 6-3, 7-5 victory on court six over Mia Jurasic.
The two teams would play the match to conclusion, splitting the final two matches (courts one and five). Arkansas’ No. 68 Yuliya Lysa took down Erin Routliffe 6-4, 6-3 on court one, while Emily Zabor earned Alabama’s fifth point of the night with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Flavia Araujo on court five.
The Razorbacks will wrap up the 2015 regular season on Sunday when they head to Auburn to face the Tigers on Sunday, April 12 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
