@RazorbackWTEN Falls To No. 6 Georgia
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 46 Arkansas women’s tennis team dropped a home match for just the third time this season as the No. 6 Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Razorbacks, 7-0, at the Billingsley Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
With the loss the Razorbacks fall to 13-10 overall and 2-6 in conference play, while UGA improves to 14-4 on the season and 7-1 in SEC competition.
“Hats off to Georgia,” said head coach Michael Hegarty. “I felt that numerous times today at 5-all situations they did a better job in the critical moments. We can certainly learn plenty from today’s performance.”
Georgia got on the board first in doubles, as the No. 17 duo of Silvia Garcia and Kennedy Shaffer defeated Peyton Jennings and Makenzie Craft 8-2 at court two and the No. 21-ranked tandem of Lauren Herring and Ellen Perez won over Shannon Hudson and Yuliya Lysa 8-5 at No. 1 to clinch the doubles point for the Bulldogs.
In singles action, the Bulldogs won matches at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 4 to secure the win. No. 62 Ellen Perez defeated Makenzie Craft 6-0, 6-1, No. 79 Hannah King took down Flavia Araujo 6-1, 6-2 and No. 89 Silvia Garcia got by Sasha Shkorupeieva 6-2, 6-2.
After Yuliya Lysa fell to No. 8 Lauren Herring at No. 1 (7-5, 6-2), Shannon Hudson, who won the first set over No. 58 Kennedy Shaffer (6-2) and played a solid match, fell 2-6, 6-3, 10-4.
The last match to finish on the afternoon was at court six. Mia Jurasic battled but fell to No. 104 Caroline Brinson 7-5, 6-3.
Arkansas will return to action on Sunday, March 29, as the Razorbacks host Tennessee at the Billingsley Tennis Center. The match is slated for a 12:00 p.m. CT start, with live stats being provided via ArkansasRazorbacks.com. The first 50 fans will receive a free Razorback Tennis t-shirt and free pizza will be served in the indoor hospitality area following doubles.
