BOULDER, Colo. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team began play Thursday afternoon at the Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colo. Two rounds of doubles were contested and the Razorbacks claimed a win behind Flavia Araujo and Nicole Breaux’s 6-4 victory over New Mexico’s Sharon Coone and Emily Olivier.
In their second round match, Araujo and Breaux came up short in a close battle, falling 7-5 to Julyette Steur and Alex Aiello of Colorado.
Sophomore Elly Fryberger and freshman Peyton Jennings dropped both of their doubles matches on the day.
“We were encouraged by most of the performances today,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “The shorter doubles format today definitely helped us overall.”
In a rule change imposed by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association and effective this season, doubles matches are played to six games as opposed to eight games in previous years.
Arkansas resumes play at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning with more doubles action and opening-round singles matches will follow.
