CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team picked up two singles wins on its first day of play at the Virginia Fall Invitational on Friday in Charlottesville, Va. Sophomores Nastassia Rubel and Shannon Hudson led the way for the Hogs, claiming both wins.
In her first match of the fall, Rubel took down Northwestern’s Jillian Rooney in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. The win was also Rubel’s first career win in a Razorback uniform.
Hudson, a Virginia Beach, Va., native having the opportunity to play in her home state, won her match against South Carolina’s Caroline Dailey in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Two rounds of doubles as well as a round of singles were contested on Friday.
“We faced some stiff competition today and competed extremely well,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “It’s great to have a group of players who look forward to the difficult parts of the player development period.”
Saturday’s play will begin at 9 a.m. EDT from the Snyder Tennis Center.
