FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — The Red team defeated the White team 118-113 in overtime as the Arkansas men’s basketball team held its annual Red-White Game Sunday evening inside Bud Walton Arena.

The Red team, led by senior Manuale Watkins, had four players who scored 20 or more points. Watkins recorded a double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds to go along with four assists.

For the White team, Moses Kingsley, Arlando Cook and Anton Beard each recorded double-doubles of their own. Beard had 16 points as well as a team-high 11 assists. The SEC Preseason Player of the Year Moses Kingsley finished with 27 points and 12 rebounds, while newcomer Daryl Macon led all scorers with 28 points.

After trailing the entire game, White was able to tie the game up with 2:10 left in the contest and take its first lead at the 1:25 mark with a pair of free throws from Beard. Red regained the lead at 104-103 with 1:06 to go. Freshman guard C.J. Jones hit a three pointer with one second on the shot clock to take a two point lead before a lay-up on the other end by Watkins as time expired sent the game to overtime, tied 106-106.

During the three minute overtime period, after going back and forth, the Red squad was able to make clutch free throws down the stretch to finish the game.

QUOTABLES
“To me, it’s going to be a process with this team in terms of really making sure they understand it’s going to be about our defense. Offensively, I believe we will be able to score, but I think our defense is something I’m really looking forward to getting better.” — Head coach Mike Anderson.

“I thought it was an evenly matched game for the most part. We got out of it what we wanted, and that was to come out and play in a game setting and give our fans a glimpse of some of these guys. It shows you there is some potential there.” — Head coach Mike Anderson.
