Redlicki, Salazar Fall Short In Sweet 16 Nail-biter

ATHENS, Ga. – With a trip to the quarterfinals of the NCAA doubles championship on the line, the sixth-ranked duo of senior Mike Redlicki and Jose Salazar fell to Oklahoma’s 15th-ranked Andrew Harris and Spencer Papa in what was another nail-biting finish Friday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

After escaping Ohio State’s 16th-ranked pair of Herkko Pollanen and Mikael Torpegaard in three sets Thursday, the Razorback tandem found themselves in another tiebreaker scenario Friday.

Similar to Thursday, Arkansas dropped the first set 6-2 and then came out firing in the second. Redlicki and Salazar opened the second set with a 2-1 lead. Breaking Oklahoma twice, the Arkansas tandem won three straight games to extend their lead 5-1 in hopes of pushing the match to a decisive 10-point tiebreaker. Harris and Papa broke then held to bring the set to 5-3, before the Razorback duo held, clinching the set and sending it to the decisive round.

In the tiebreaker, no pair led by more than a one point until late. Tied 7-7, the Sooners broke to take an 8-7 lead, before holding serve for the final two points to clinch the match.

Redlicki and Salazar wrapped up their senior years at 14-9 overall, 11-8 this spring.
