Redlicki, Salazar Lead Razorbacks Into ITA Regionals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Coming off historic runs at the ITA All-American earlier this month, Mike Redlicki and Jose Salazar lead the Arkansas men’s tennis team into the ITA Central Regional Championship this weekend, hosted by Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

 Redlicki, the No. 11 player in the nation, and Salazar, the No. 45 player in the nation, picked up the program’s first wins in an ITA National Tournament main draw since 2008, both advancing to the Round of 16. Redlicki also won the Southern Intercollegiate singles title and enters the weekend with an 8-1 record, including a 5-1 mark against ranked opponents.

In last year’s ITA Central Regional Championship, played at Arkansas, Redlicki won four matches and advanced to the semifinals in singles and combined with Giammarco Micolani for three wins and a semifinal appearance in doubles.

“We are eager to compete at the Regional Championship at Oklahoma State,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “The level of play will be high and we are hoping to continue to make progress as we have throughout the fall.”

Both singles and doubles play get underway Thursday in Stillwater with two rounds of doubles action and one round of singles action.

In singles play, Redlicki and Salazar, as well as Adam Sanjurjo, received first-round byes and will begin play in the Round of 64 on Friday. The Razorbacks’ other five players – Johan den Toom, Branch Terrell, Austin Robles, Jacob Herndon and Juan Marino – will all begin play in Thursday’s Round of 128.

 The doubles team of Redlicki and Salazar received a first-round bye and will begin play in the afternoon’s Round of 32. The other three doubles teams will all begin play in the morning in the Round of 64.

The singles draw includes 10 nationally ranked players from four different schools, while the doubles draw includes five nationally ranked doubles teams from four different schools, including the nation’s top-ranked doubles team of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe from Oklahoma State.
