Rees near the top of the leaderboard

LOUDON, Tenn. — University of Arkansas senior-to-be Corinna Rees vaulted to the top of the leaderboard in second place after the first round of the 79th Women’s Trans National Golf Association Amateur Championship in Loudon, Tenn., Monday. Rees, a Pebble Beach, Calif., native, fired a three-under 69 in the first round and is second overall. Calle Nielson of Nashville, Tenn., leads the field with a six-under 66. Rees is joined by several current and future Razorbacks at this week’s event. Senior-to-be Tiffany Phelps is tied for seventh overall with an even par 72 and incoming sophomore Katy Nugent is tied for 44th after carding a six-over 78. Incoming freshmen Victoria Vela and Meagan Roberts are also competing this week. Both are tied for52nd with plus-seven 79s. Play continues throughout the week.
