ROGERS – University of Arkansas women’s golfers Corinna Rees and Victoria Vela competed well but did not make the cut for the P&G NW Arkansas LPGA Championship at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Ark., Monday.

Rees, a senior this season, carded a 78 while sophomore Vela counted 82. They were the only amateurs in the 11-player qualifier.

"I’m very proud of both Corinna and Victoria, Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. "This was an amazing experience for them and they will take some valuable lessons from this opportunity. They both had teammates caddying so this Monday qualifierhad a great impact on a big portion of our team. Corinna and Victoriawill be even more prepared for our upcoming college season in a fewweeks after today."

The final two spots for this weekend’s event went to Cindy Lacrosse who shot 69 and Michelle Eills with a 73.

Current Razorback senior Kelli Shean was granted a sponsor’s exemption tournament officials announced today.

Shean is the second Razorback to earn a sponsor’s exemption joining former University of Arkansas standout Stacy Lewis who played on an exemption in 2008. Shean advanced through last year’s qualifier and made the cut into the weekend event.

"I’m thrilled that Kelli will once again get to tee it up in the P&G Beauty NWA LPGA Championship," Estes-Taylor said. "She has worked extremely hard and I believe she can do something special next week. Kelli gained a ton of confidence from her U.S. Women’s Open experience this past summer. She is a great ambassador for our University, our women’s golf program, and for the community that embraces this great LPGA event. We look forward to cheering on another Razorback up the LPGA leaderboard."

Tee times are not yet set for the event.
