Regionals next for men's cross

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 22 Arkansas Razorback men’s cross country will continue the 2009 season with a 10K race at the 2009 NCAA South Central Regional Cross Country Championships. The gun will go off at 10 a.m. Sat., Nov. 14 at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco, Texas.

Lane Boyer, Michael Chinchar, Cameron Efurd, Rick Elliott, Solomon Haile, Aaron Hamilton, Rio Reina, Patrick Russell and Dorian Ulrey are in contention to compete for the Razorbacks this weekend. Also competing at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Saturday are Baylor, Lamar, LSU, Rice, Texas, Texas A&M and TCU, along with No. 22 Arkansas.

In the current edition of the USTFCCCA weekly rankings, the Razorbacks are listed at No. 1 in the South Central Region and No. 22 in the national poll. The Razorbacks are one of three SEC teams listed, with Alabama ranked No. 6 and Auburn ranked 25th.

The NCAA South Central Regional is one of nine gateways to the NCAA Championships in two weeks. All teams wishing to compete at the NCAA meet must qualify through one of the regional meets or receive an at-large selection based on their body of work through the year. To qualify out of the regional, teams must finish among the top two teams.

The Razorbacks won 18-consecutive NCAA South Central titles (1990-2007) and 29 of the 31 South Central Championships awarded since 1978. Arkansas has won 18 individual NCAA South Central Regional titles. The most recent came in 2004 from Josphat Boit who clocked a time of 29:43 to win the event.
