Ricketts, Watkins honored, Arkansas picked 8th

FAYETTEVILLE — University of Arkansas senior C’eria Ricketts and junior Sarah Watkins were selected to the 2011 Southeastern Conference preseason All-SEC team, the league announced today. Tom Collen’s Razorback women’s basketball team was selected eighth in a vote by the SEC coaches as well. “We as a staff are excited for C’eria and Sarah to be recognized as two of the top players in the SEC by the league’s coaches,” Collen said. “That is certainly a testament to all of the hard work and success they have had coming into this season. C’eira and Sarah along with Ashley (Daniels) and Lyndsay (Harris) are our leaders and they will have to play well for us to be successful this season. “Of course our goal as a staff and as a team is to finish higher than our projected eighth place pick,” Collen continued. “This is a starting place and we all know that the only thing that matters is the final poll and where we finish. I think this will inspire us to reach even higher.” Arkansas enters the season with fifth-year head coach Tom Collen and all five returning starters, including Ricketts and Watkins, from last year’s 22-12 team. The Razorbacks started the season with 12 consecutive wins, the second-longest winning streak in program history, defeated two top 15 teams at home, found themselves in the national polls for several weeks and advanced to the quarterfinals of the WNIT last year. Arkansas is scheduled to open the season this weekend facing Minnesota, Florida State and South Florida in back-to-back-to-back games as part of the WBI Tip-Off Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. The Razorbacks open at home Nov. 16 hosing Texas-Arlington in an 11 a.m. game that welcomes area elementary students. Season tickets for Razorback women’s basketball games are on sale at the Razorback Ticket Center by calling 1-800-982-HOGS or by going on-line at ArkansasRazorbacks.com. Ticket packages are $90 and include admission to 17 regular season games at Bud Walton Arena.
