Roman competes on 3-meter

FAYETTEVILLE– University of Arkansas sophomore diver Alex Roman competed on the 3-meter springboard Saturday on the second day of the NCAA Zone “D” Diving Championships at the Student Rec Center Natatorium on the campus of Texas A&M University.

Roman placed 36th with a score of 213.25 and failed to qualify for the finals.

“Alex really struggled today,” Arkansas diving coach Dale Schultz said. “She did not compete like she did at the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships where she nailed her schedule of dives. We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete again tomorrow, especially with Liana on platform. Tomorrow gives us a chance to advance to the NCAA meet.”

Fellow sophomore Liana Bugslag did not compete on the 3-meter in order to better prepare for the platform diving event.

The University of Houston’s Anatasia Pozdniakova won the 3-meter competition with a 12-dive total of 751.90. Also qualifying for NCAAs were Minnesota’s Kelci Bryant, Texas’ Maren Taylor and Houston’s Lacey Truelove.

The championships will close with platform diving Sunday morning. Preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. with finals set for 1 p.m.

Twelve total divers from all three events will qualify for the NCAA Championships meet, March 18-20, in West Lafayette, Ind.
