Sophomore (2014-15)
Registered season best times at the 2015 SEC Championships in the 200 (1:51.46), 500 (5:03.53) and 1,650 freestyle (17:09.46)… Bates’ 500 free time at the SEC Championships ranked No. 6 on the team… Touched the wall fourth in the 1,000 freestyle against Vanderbilt with a time of 10:28.68… Aided Arkansas ‘D’ 400 free relay to a first place finish against Missouri State (3:33.00).
Freshman(2013-14)
Clocked a time of 1:49.37 in the 200 freestyle and 17:04 in the 1650 freestyle at the SEC Championships… Swam a time of 4:51.86 in the 500 freestyle at the Mizzou Invitational… Placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly at the Kansas, Vanderbilt double dual with a time of 2:06.68… Registered a season-best time of 52.40 in the 100 freestyle… Swam a time of 2:06.68 in the 200 freestyle at the Kansas, Vanderbilt double dual.
High School/Club
A four-year letterwinner at Madison High School and also swam for Alamo Area Aquatics Association from ages 10 to 18… Was a regional finalist her freshman year and a state qualifier her sophomore, junior and senior years… Broke the 200 freestyle record and the 500 freestyle record at her school… Best times include a 1:50.93 in the 200 freestyle, a 4:55.47 in the 500 freestyle, a 51.97 in the 100 freestyle, a 10:09.79 in the 1,000 freestyle and a 2:07.02 in the 200 butterfly.
Personal
Was born on May 10, 1995 in San Antonio, Texas, and is the daughter of Mark and Marie Phelps, and Brad and Eva Bates… Has one younger sister, Justine, and a younger brother, Charlie… Was a member of varsity choir and National Honor Society at Madison High School… Chose Arkansas because she loved the school and the swim team. She hopes to attend law school after college.
