Salvatore leads gymnastics

    FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A total of 208 University of Arkansas student-athletes earned grades at or above a 3.0 grade point average for the fall 2008 semester the Razorback Athletics Department announced recently.
    The Razorback gymnastics team had 10 of its 11 team members honored for their success in the classroom.
    Redshirt freshman Genny Salvatore paced the team with a perfect 4.00 in the fall semester.  Salvatore is sidelined with a knee injury this semester.
    Seven gymnasts were members of the Athletic Director’s list with grades between 3.50-3.99.  They include Stacy Bartlett (nutrition); Allison Daniels (nursing); Amy DeFilippo (kinesiology); Molly Lewis (undeclared); Casey Jo Magee (kinesiology); Jaime Pisani (kinesiology) and Michelle Stout (marketing).
    Two others were selected to the Razorback Honor Roll with grades in the 3.00-3.49 range.  They were Alex LaChance (kinesiology) and Sarah Nagashima (apparel studies).
    “We’re very proud of our scholar-athletes,” said co-head coach Mark Cook.  “This success shows their commitment to excel academically, and do their very best.  It also exemplifies the collective attitude of our program to put forth our best effort, and prepare for the future while challenged with the rigors of training and competition at the highest level of collegiate sports.”
    “This team works hard in the classroom and in the gym,” added co-head coach Rene Cook.  “We are very proud of their success.  This is their future and most of the team wants to go on to graduate work and continue their education.”
    The list of 208 honorees included 28 football players, 25 swimmers and divers, 24 soccer players, 23 men’s track and field athletes, 20 members of the baseball team, 19 softball players, 17 women’s track and field team members, 11 athletes from volleyball, 10 from gymnastics, seven women’s golfers, six each from men’s and women’s tennis, five from women’s basketball, four from men’s basketball and three from men’s golf.
    In addition, the fall 2008 semester’s honors included 33 Razorback student-athletes with perfect 4.0 gpas.
