FAYETTEVILLE – Razorback fan Canaan Sandy has been named to the three-person 2013 ESPN Fan Hall of Fame class, it was announced Monday.
Sandy has been a Razorback fan since he was two months old, when he attended his first game. His mother, Ginger, entered him into the competition because he refers to himself as the most dedicated fan the Hogs ever had. He has the Razorbacks’ schedule memorized, travels four hours each way to see Arkansas play and has taught his entire church to call the Hogs.
The three members of the 2013 class will be honored with their names engraved above stadium chairs on the lawn of ESPN’s campus in Bristol, Conn., during an induction ceremony in 2014. Each of the three inductees, who were selected by a diverse panel of judges, received more than 85,000 votes on the Fan Hall of Fame website during the 10 days of public voting. Sandy is joined in this year’s class by Barbara Rust and Pierce Wallace.
"The inductees received outstanding support from their teams, communities and fellow fans throughout the voting period," Jeffrey Gonyo, senior director of sports marketing at ESPN, said. "We look forward to bringing Barbara, Canaan and Pierce to our headquarters to honor their passion and dedication."
