Schmidt Named SEC Pitcher of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Nick Schmidt was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week on Monday by the conference office after striking out a career-high 15 batters on Thursday, May 18, against Auburn.

Schmidt pitched eight innings against the Tigers, allowing three runs on seven hits and issuing just one walk. It was his seventh double-digit strikeout performance of the season and the second-most strikeouts in a game in school history.

He leads the league in strikeouts in SEC games with 98 and ranks second in total strikeouts with 130. The 130 strikeouts are the second most in a single season in school history.

Schmidt is holding opponents to a .199 batting average, and it was the ninth time this season he has thrown at least seven innings. He has pitched a career-best 102.2 innings this season.

It was Schmidt’s second SEC Pitcher of the Week award this season and the third of his career. He was the SEC Pitcher of the Week following his combined no-hitter against Oklahoma State on the opening weekend of the season.
