School record prompts SEC accolade

FAYETTEVILLE – On the heels of a school-record performance at the Tyson Invitational, Tina Sutej has been selected as the Southeastern Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week. The junior pole vault standout won her fifth competition in as many meets and is being recognized as the league’s top field athlete for the third consecutive week.

"Tina keeps inching closer and closer," head coach Lance Harter said. "She’s getting closer to that collegiate record and we’re excited to see her get there. She’d be the first one to tell you that the win is the most important thing but she’s also jumping really well and capable of going higher."

Sutej extended her national lead in the pole vault with a clearance of 14-8 which resets the school record she already owned, a 14-7.5 effort at the 2010 SEC Championships. For the third consecutive weekend, Sutej took tries at a new collegiate record with good attempts at the would-be record of 14-10.75. She has now posted an NCAA automatic qualifier in all five competitions this season.

She now has the top five jumps in school history, four of which have come this season. In further recognition of her outstanding performance this season, Sutej was added to the updated watch list for the Bowerman Award last week. The Bowerman is awarded each year to the top male and female collegiate athlete in NCAA track and field.

The Razorbacks concluded the regular-season portion of their schedule last weekend with the Tyson Invitational and return to action Feb. 25-27 with the SEC Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville.
