Scott Bridges Named SEC Player of the Week
BY ANDRES FOCIL
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Second baseman Scott Bridges came through with two clutch hits on Sunday to help 25th-ranked Arkansas sweep a doubleheader at Texas-Arlington and for his efforts was named the SEC Player of the Week on Monday.
Bridges cracked a two-run home run in the seventh inning of the first game to give the Razorbacks a 2-1 win. He came back in the second game to double home the go-ahead run in the top of the 12th inning in the Hogs’ 4-1 win.
“Scott had a tremendous weekend,” Head Coach Dave Van Horn said. “Without Scott’s clutch hitting we could have gone 2-2 this weekend instead of 4-0. He played great defense, and he was really the catalyst for our offense, both at the plate and on the base paths. It is great to see him get off to such a good start.”
Bridges leads the Razorbacks (4-0) with a .667 batting average, a 1.111 slugging percentage, a .769 on-base percentage, three stolen bases, six runs scored and five RBI.
Arkansas wraps up its seven-game road trip at Louisiana Tech this weekend. The Razorbacks and Bulldogs get the three-game series started at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18. All three games can be heard on the Razorback Baseball Radio Network (RBRN). The Hogs will then open the home portion of the 2005 baseball season on Friday, Feb. 25, at 2:35 p.m. at Baum Stadium against defending Big 10 Champions Minnesota.
