No. 3 Georgia vs. No. 10 Tennessee
No. 3 Georgia 4, No. 10 Tennessee 0
Third-ranked Georgia topped No. 10 Tennessee 4-0 to win the Southeastern Conference Women’s Tennis Championship at Arkansas on Sunday.
Georgia, the top seed in the tournament, recorded wins over Alabama, 4-1, and Florida, 4-2, to reach the final. The Bulldogs are now 23-2.
No. 12 Chelsey Gullickson clinched the match for Georgia with a 6-2, 6-3 win over No. 45 Caitlin Whoriskey at No. 1.
Tennessee’s Maria Sorbellow and Jennifer Meredith won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles to get the Volunteers off to a good start, but UG’s Yvette Hyndman and Monika Dancevic won at No. 2, 8-5, and Gullickson and Nadja Gilchrist won at No. 1, 8-4, to give the Bulldogs the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
Georgia took a 3-0 lead when Cameron Ellis posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sorbello at No. 6 and Dancevic defeated Meredith at No. 4, 6-4, 6-4.
Dancevic was named the SEC Tournament MVP.
Tennessee, the No. 3 seed which advanced with a 4-2 win over South Carolina and a 4-1 victory over Ole Miss, is 17-6.
