SEC honors 34 Razorbacks for classroom success

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas soccer team placed 16 student-athletes on the 2010 Fall Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll headlining a list of 34 Razorbacks who were honored for semester grades.

A total of 526 student-athletes from the SEC’s 12-member institutions were named to the academic honor roll this fall.

Erin Aubry’s squad had 16 selections followed by 14 from the Razorback football team and four from volleyball.

The Razorback soccer team had a successful fall semester with six of its student-athletes athletes also earning selection to the Chancellor’s List. Those student-athletes include Kailey Anders and Allie Chandler who major in communication disorders; Camille Flores, journalism; Beth McVean, kinesiology; Kelly O’Connor, international relations and Chelsea Tidwell, nutrition.

Volleyball player Mackenzie Rhea was also a Chancellor’s List member and is majoring in biology.

"We are proud of the student-athletes who are representing the University of Arkansas on the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. "Their hard work and dedication in the classroom has earned them recognition at the University of Arkansas and placed them among the best student-athletes in the SEC. We congratulate each of them for this outstanding accomplishment."

Six of the SEC Academic Honor Roll selections earned perfect 4.00 grade point averages for the fall semester. They include Clay Bemberg from football, soccer players Anders, Chandler, Flores, McVean and O’Connor and volleyball player Rhea.

The SEC’s Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2010 spring, summer and fall semesters or quarters. To be selected, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.00 or better for the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA at or above 3.00. In addition, the student-athlete’s summer school grades must be included; he or she may be either a scholarship recipient, letterwinner or non-scholarship student-athlete who has been on the varsity team for two seasons. Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must complete 24 semester or 36 quarter hours toward a degree and they must have been a member of the varsity team for the sports entire NCAA Championship season.
