SEC recognizes Regina George

FAYETTEVILLE – For the first time this outdoor season and the third time in 2010, Arkansas Razorback freshman Regina George, a member of the women’s track and field team, has been honored by the Southeastern Conference, it was announced Tuesday.

George, a native of Chicago, Ill., is the SEC Freshman of the Week. At the Razorback Spring Invitational on Saturday, she ran the 200 meters, the 400 meters and legs of the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relays.

"Regina is bringing the momentum she generated during the indoor season with her to the outdoor track," head coach Lance Harter said. "She is so crucial because of her depth. She can run on any relay and in all the sprints events. Plus, she has a ton of promise in the 800 meters. She is a great addition to this team and our sprints crew. They had a very exciting indoor season and our goal is to replicate that outdoors."

In the 200 meters, she finished second overall and first among collegians with a personal-best time of 23.63. Her time ranks No. 11 in the NCAA (No. 3 among freshmen), No. 8 in the NCAA West Region (No. 2 among freshmen) and leads the SEC.

In the 400 meters, she won the event with a personal-best time of 53.94. Her time ranks tied for No. 12 in the NCAA (tied for No. 2 among freshmen), tied for No. 7 in the NCAA West Region (tied for No. 1 among freshmen) and No. 5 in the SEC (No. 1 among freshmen).

She ran the second leg of the winning 4×100-meter relay that clocked a time of 46.28. She ran the third leg of the winning 4×400-meter relay that clocked a time of 3:37.94. The 4×400 team ranks No. 2 in the NCAA and leads the SEC.

The Razorbacks will compete next at Texas Relays, Thurs.-Sat., April 1-3, in Austin, Texas.
