SECs open with bye for Razorbacks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The ninth-ranked University of Arkansas gymnastics team kicks off the 2009 Southeastern Conference Championship with a bye before the floor, the Razorbacks learned Friday. Arkansas and the other six SEC members participated in a draw in between practice sessions Friday. Junior All-American Michelle Stout took part in the draw with the Razorbacks picking fourth overall. Stout selected the third option in from the left and it was revealed that the Razorbacks would begin on the bye before floor. Arkansas moves to floor, then bye 1, vault, bye 2 and finishes on beam this year. “You know, it really doesn’t matter where we start,” said Arkansas co-head coach Mark Cook. “We have to compete on all four events and do our best on each one.” The Razorbacks have started with a bye in five of the seven SEC Championships since adding gymnastics for the 2003 season. The meet gets underway at 4 p.m., Saturday. Arkansas returns home hosting the 2009 NCAA South Central Regional Championship April 4.
