FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas is hosting the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championship this week and all eight Razorbacks are participating in the individual draw tournament.
Two Razorbacks are seeded among the top eight in singles with another in the 9-16 group, and one doubles team is in the top eight with another in the 9-16 group.
Three Razorbacks are playing in the qualifying round, which begins Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the Dills Indoor Stadium and the Billingsley Center. The event runs Thursday through Monday.
Sophomore Claudine Paulson, freshman Jade Frampton and sophomore Valentina Starkova are competing in the qualifier.
Paulson has a first-round bye, but in the second round faces the winner between Caitlin McKenna of Saint Louis and Meredith McDonagh of Bradley.
Frampton also has a first-round bye. She plays the winner of the match between Clair Griffin of Western Illinois and Earlynn Lauer of Drake in the second round.
Starkova plays in the first round against Anastacia Simons of Southern Illinois. With a victory, she advances to meet Jenny Nalepa of Saint Louis.
Second-round matches begin at 11:30 a.m.
Among the top-seeded players in the tournament, senior Anouk Tigu is No. 1 and junior Kate Lukomskaya is No. 7 in singles. Junior Emily Carbone is in the alphabetical 9-16 group.
In doubles, Tigu and Paulson are seeded No. 2, and Lukomskaya and Sundaram are in the 9-16 group.
