Seibert to Start Cape Cod League All-Star Game; Schmidt Throwing Well for Team USA

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas hurler Shaun Seibert has been named the starting pitcher for the East squad in the 44th annual Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game on Saturday, July 26, at Red Wilson Field in South Yarmouth, Mass.

The right-handed Seibert has dominated opposing hitters all summer for the Brewster Whitecaps. He has not allowed an earned run in 40.2 innings of work while posting a 5-0 record.

His five wins and 0.00 ERA lead the league, while his 40.2 innings are tied for fifth. Seibert has struck out 33 and walked 23 while surrendering 22 hits.

Arkansas left-hander Nick Schmidt has excelled for the USA National team this summer with a 1-1 record and 1.65 ERA in three starts. He has pitched 16.1 innings, allowing 10 hits and three earned runs while striking out 19 and walking seven.

Schmidt’s first win came against Chinese Taipei on July 7 when he worked 5.2 innings, allowing just four hits and fanning nine. He then picked up a no decision on July 15 against the Southwest Slashers in Joplin, Mo. Schmidt’s only loss was a 2-1 decision against Korea on July 22. He allowed just two runs (one earned) on two hits in seven innings of work while striking out seven.
