Senior Duo Earns ITA Regional Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. – Seniors Mike Redlicki and Jose Salazar added to their postseason honors list Monday night, picking up Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional honors.

Redlicki, the No. 10 singles player in the country, was named the ITA Senior Player of the Year, while Salazar, the 39th-ranked singles player in the country, earned the ITA Most Improved Player (Senior) award.

“We are proud of Jose and Mike for winning these awards,” said head coach Andy Jackson. “They worked very hard and certainly are deserving.”

The duo already picked up postseason awards from the Southeastern Conference, as both were first-team All-SEC selections, following the conference tournament.

Ranked as the sixth-best doubles squad in the country, the two went 10-7 in the spring, 13-8 overall during their final season. Earning a 27-10 overall this season, 10-8 this spring, Redlicki has faced a ranked opponent in 26 of his 37 matches during his senior campaign, holding a 19-7 overall record and 8-6 mark during the spring.

Salazar leads the team with a 30-8 overall record, including an impressive 19-5 mark this spring and 9-3 record against SEC opponents. He is 9-4 overall against ranked opponents, 7-1 this spring and is 4-1 against ranked SEC foes. Salazar is also 8-2 away from home this season and 5-1 on the road against SEC opponents.

Both will be back in action for the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships from May 24-19 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, after being selected as two of the 64 singles players and one of the 32 doubles pairings that will compete at the championships.

The ITA national award winners will be released on May 23.
